Lightboard vs. Chalkboard - a Case Study

Caroline Cormier, an educator at Cégep André-Laurendeau describes in this article how her team coordinated to flip their chemistry classes, creating 159 videos with her colleagues using a chalkboard for record lectures. Once she discovered the lightboard at another university, in her own words, “I wouldn’t go back! I face the camera: students can both see me and see what I write. Lightboard vs. Lecture Capture Live Stream

The Business eLearning team, in the College of Business at University College Dublin, quickly saw the potential value and impact of a lightboard for its students, after initially reviewing an article from the Educause network. Per the showcase article featuring this initiative, "the team had identified a need from academic colleagues for a technology to capture hand written content while retaining student engagement in the classroom. This was of particular importance to those academics from quantitative disciplines, such as accountancy, finance and MIS, who created a lot of hand transcribed content for students in the classroom."  They also quickly saw the benefits of the lightboard in hybrid (asynchronous + synchronous) and hyflex (hybrid + face-to-face lecture) situations.
